This June 20th, leaders in business, community and government across Australia are spending a night sleeping on cardboard and concrete to raise money for Australians at risk and experiencing homelessness.
The target this year is $7 million, which enables Vinnies to continue to provide critical services to the 254,000 Australians who seek help from Vinnies homelessness services each year.
Daniel Lai, archTIS’ CEO, will be joining hundreds of others doing the sleepout in Canberra.
“The CEO Sleepout is a small thing that makes such a big difference in keeping these services going.” he said.
A key driver for Daniel is the growing prevalence of homelessness in Australia, with a 13.7% increase between 2011 and 2016.
“Homelessness is an issue that has become increasingly prevalent everywhere and can unfortunately happen to anyone of us. It is not usually a choice. Everyone is someone’s family and no one should be living on the street.”
According to Vinnies this increase is “a reflection of an Australian Government not investing enough in mental health, family violence & homelessness services or affordable housing, & more.”
